Maybe, when someone asks you about Vilnus, you could only tell this person that it surely is a cold city. However, this city is much more than that. The capital of Lithuania is a charming medieval city with magnificent churches, houses with spectacular colors and a privileged ambient. Ebooking a hotel in this city is recommendable if you want to have cultural holidays or just to be in contact with nature. Nonetheless, it is obviously not the place to go if you prefer to go to the beach and have a sunny weather.
The old architecture of this city mixes many different styles, just as Scandinavian, German or Russian. Its paved streets in the city center show us a baroque Vilnius. The Neris and Vilnia rivers cross the city, and the beauty of it is complemented with its wooded hills.
The best time to travel to Vilnius is during summer, when the temperatures are around 30 degrees, making it possible to walk along it and sit down in its open air cafeterias and restaurants. However, during winter the temperatures are gelid, almost always under zero degrees and with few hours of sunlight.
When you visit Vilnius, you should visit the Gediminas Castle. This historical castle was built in the XIIIth century by the founder of the city, and it has served as a defensive bastion, a prison, and nowadays a touristic attraction. The castle was originally wooden, although later it was rebuilt with thick stone walls. Despite this, it was almost completely destroyed by Russian troops in the XVIIth century.
The Vilnius Cathedral is also worth visiting. It is located at the exact center of the city, and it was also built in the XIIIth century.
There are many hotels in Vilnius, due to the fact that it is a touristic city. If you want to visit it, now you have no excuse.
