About Palma de Mallorca
Palma Mallorca is the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands in Spain, located in the southwest of the island of Mallorca. The city has a long history dating back to the year 123 B.c. When it came under the name of Palma by the Roman Empire.
The City currently has a rich historical heritage, giving visitors many places of interest to visit.
Known as the La Seu, is the second largest Cathedral in Spain. Its construction dates back to the 18th century, although several restorations have been undertaken in later years, the monument incorporates works from Gaudi and Miquel Barceló, providing a striking modern and surprising Chapel. Inside is even more impressive than its exterior.
This circular Castle, is one of the most peculiar castles that can be visited in Europe. Its construction was carried out in the 14th century by order of Jaime II and served as a residence for several Kings. Currently the castle is considered a symbol of the city, and the Museum of history of Palma. It is also one of the places offering best views of the city.
Royal Palace of La Almudaina
Almudaina is one of the most outstanding monuments of Palma Mallorca. This Grand Palace dates back to the beginnings of 1309, although its structure is finished, from the expansion and reforms undertaken over the years until this day. Today the Palace is one of the residences of the Spanish Royal family.
Although several of the most important monuments of Palma Mallorca have a Gothic style, the modernist style also has great prominence in the city, being seen in monuments like the Gran Hotel, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.
The hotel was built in 1903 and considered one of the best of the era, although it is today a cultural centre, where various exhibitions and conferences are held.
This Museum of contemporary art, is one of the most important in the country, especially noted for the temporary exhibitions that often host works by the likes of Andy Warhol, Rebecca Horn and Picasso, among many others.
The train is for many a special transport medium, especially in the case of the railway of Sóller. This narrow gauge railway line linking Palma Mallorca with the town of Soller. With its old trains and its artisan form a most charming way to travel to Soller.
