This area of the city holds a significant part of the original habitation, a space of 40 hectares and 159 houses that were inhabited by some of the most influential personalities of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Today it is one of the main symbols of the city and one of its most important attractions.
This 10th century temple is one of the great cultural attractions of Fuzhou. In its day, it was the tallest stone temple and an architectural achievement. Its style is renowned for its symmetry and great harmony.
Within a few hours of Fuzhou city are historic round houses belonging to one of the most influential ethnic groups of Chinese culture, the Hakka. These constructions, mostly circular, have a very wide wall and a diameter and height enough to include up to 80 houses, allowing the community to protect itself from invaders.
Up to 46 of these sets of houses have been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
